Beginner Fencing Membership
The Beginner membership is for fencers who have completed the Introductory program, Beginner Fencing Camp, or who fenced before and need to refresh their skills.
Fencers at the Beginner Level work on
Increasing their competence with fundamental footwork and beadwork skills
Using Structured Movements to demonstrate basic offensive and defensive maneuvers
Learning the vocabulary of fencing
Applying the rules of training to create a safe learning environment
Having their first experiences with partner drills and bouting
At this level you'll need to start assembling your Basic Fencing Kit. See our equipment page for more information!
Both used and new equipment can be purchased from CEFC and we have an add-on equipment purchase program that can be used to spread out the purchase over the course of several months.
How long to spend
Athletes spend between 3 and 6 months at this level, before testing and moving to a higher level of training. Athletes will regularly be evaluated on their capabilities and the coaching staff will recommend when to move up.
Fencers at the beginner level attend one class per week, and spend their time working on technical competencies with footwork and target drills. As they start to begin to acquire their own equipment, they will have the opportunity to participate in partner drills and open bouting, as well as attend Weekend Intensives.
