Spring 2010 Training Schedule

General Program Information

For introductory students we offer the Bronze Class, which meets twice a week and teaches the fundamentals of fencing in a group format class. Students may begin classes at the beginning of any month of the year. The intermediate level Silver Class is available to students who have passed the appropriate test and includes skills necessary for open bouting. For the advanced fencer, we offer our Gold Class, to prepare students for competitive fencing. In addition, on an invitation basis, there is the Elite Program, which includes individualized age- and skill-level appropriate instruction in the context of long-term training schedules. Private Lessons are available for students unable to fit into any of the group programs, or who wish to take advantage of additional opportunities for instruction. Open Bouting times are available as well.

Bronze (Beginner Level) Fencing Classes

Twice a week standard beginner classes cover all the fundamentals of fencing. Classes cover instruction on the fundamentals of footwork and bladework, the history and rules of the sport and general physical fitness.

Youth Bronze Class (age 8 - 12) Mon/Wed 5:30 - 6:16
Adult and Teen Broze Class (age 13 and up) Tues/Thurs 8:00 - 8:45

Tuition of $70/month is due the first class day of each month.

Silver (Intermediate) Fencing Class

Twice a weekly classes include group footwork instruction and drills, occasional one-on-one instruction, and bouting times. Students will continue instruction in general fencing techniques in a group environment, and learn the skills and techniques of bouting.

Youth Silver Class (age 8-12) Tues/Thurs 5:30 - 6:15 + Open bouting 3X week
Adult Silver Class (age 13 and up) Tues/Thurs 8:00 - 8:45 + Open bouting 3X week

Tuition of $70/month is due the first class day of each month.

Gold (Advanced) Fencing Class

Twice a weekly classes build on the foundations of the previous levels, introducting tactics, advanced footwork, and an emphasis on physical conditioning.

Gold Class (all ages) Tues/Thurs 6:45 - 7:30 + One private lesson a month + Open bouting up to 4 times a week

Tuition of $90/month is due the first class day of each month.

Elite (Competitive) Fencing Class

.For the advanced Youth or Adult Fencer who is interested in serious competitive fencing on the regional and national level, we offer our Competitive Fencing Program as an add-on to the regular Gold class. The Competitive Program provides individualized age- and skill level-appropriate instruction in a long-term setting tailored for the specific needs of the athlete in the context of appropriate periodization training schedules. The Competitive Program is by invitation of the staff and requires a substantial commitment of time and energy on the part of the coach and the students.

Weekly individual lesson + Gold Class + Unlimited open bouting

Tuition of $120/month is due the first class day of each month.

Per Rec Center policy, NRH residents receive a $5 discount on all class fees. NRH Rec Center Policy is that all class fees should be paid on the first class of the month. Effective 11/1/2006, a $10 late fee will be charged for all registrations that are paid on or after the second Monday of the Month. Special price note for Families. As of June 2007, if two or more family members are registered in fencing clases all will receive a $10 discount on Class prices! All family members must register and pay at the same time in order to receive the discount.

We welcome visiting fencers to join us. Floor fees for visiting students are $10 per night, for a maximum of 4 visits per month, and include our regular training class and bouting times.

For Beginner and Recreational Programs equipment is provided subject to our Equipment Policies, but a fencing glove is required and is available for the nominal fee of $15. Students wishing to purchase their own fencing equipment please see the Equipment Information Page.

All classes are held at the North Richland Hills Recreation Center. Register on-line through the RecXpress system or call the Rec Center at 817-427-6600.

Private lesson policies
Cutting Edge Fencing Club utilizes the highly successful group training methodologies of the most successful domestic and international fencing clubs. Once a student reaches a certain level of advancement, it is appropriate to supplement this group training with individual one-on-one instruction with a coach. One-on-one instruction is typically given in the context of the normally scheduled instruction times, but may be scheduled at other times, depending upon the availability of the instructor.

Gold and Competitive Program students receive private lessons with their program registration scheduled as appropriate for periodization training.

Bronze and Silver Program schedule lessons up to two weeks in advance, subject to instructor availability.These prices are also valid for Gold and Competitive program members wishing additional private instruction.
