Cutting Edge Fencing Club was started and is run by David Sierra, an accredited fencing instructor by the United States Fencing Coaches Association and the Academie d'Armes International. He has been an active member of the North Texas Division fencing community for many years, worked as assistant coach at several local fencing clubs and taught at community recreation centers throughout the area. In addition to coaching, he is a Nationally-ranked referee and can be often found working at local, regional and national tournaments when not in conflict with his (growing!) coaching duties. He also serves on the administrative board of the Southwest Section Circuit Cup, a series of regional tournaments in Texas, Louisiana and Oklahoma.

Coach Sierra illuminates his coaching philosophy with a quote from Lászkó Sazbó, the great Hungarian Fencing Master and an inspiration for generations of fencing instructors and students: "Fencing is an individual competitive sport. For this very reason, self-reliance on the part of the fencer is indispensable in every respect. The development and perfection of action is always the task of the competitor...The master is only an essential guide who provides assistance in this activity."

Says David, "I strive to develop in my students the patience, dedication, pursuit of excellence and code of ethics necessary not only for competitive fencing but for successful endeavors throughout life. It is my goal to provide each student, no matter what the level, the personal attention to foster their enjoyment of the sport, success as a fencer and development as an individual of good character."

Happy Fencing!
